America breeds this “independent” spirit and it does have some advantages. But preparation isn’t one of them. CHief Instructor has it right. You just can’t do this alone. We are on a large parcel of property and recently our neighbors got together just to discuss life and stuff. Interestingly, we all had been thinking about a lot of the same prep things and are looking forward to finding ways to help each other and band together. Lots of possibilities. It is a great way to meet some great people too!

Amen to that. I have clients with guns and ammo galore, food and water for their family for a year and a stash of gold and silver, “just in case”. Their plan is to “blow the punks all to hell.”

I ask them what they’ll do if there is more than one bad guy, or if they are surprised during the night, or if their spouse is taken hostage without a shot needing to be fired. What then?

Crickets chirping.

People assume they’ll be attacked by the mindless zombies. They need to look at the amazingly successful strategies employed by street gangs. If TSHTF, that is a much more likely opponent.

This is all hypothetical. How many TEOTWAWKI events have you actually survived? A larger group makes a larger target and changes the dynamics of escape and evasion should that be necessary.

It may be that the downside of getting together with others is an actual increase in the risk of being attacked in this situation. The issue should be explored from all sides before reaching such an extreme conclusion.
