How to prepare your family to survive and thrive in todays uncertain world

I’m Back, Didja Miss Me?

intentSo thanks to some computer downtime and some strange stomach problem that had me down and out for a few days, I’ve been unable to do anything here.

But my computer is back to healthy standards and I’m feeling much better, so I’m back.

I’ve got some great reviews coming this week, as well as an article that quite a few of you have been asking for.

But today, I need to keep it a little lighter and I’m going to ask YOU for something.  Or a couple somethings.

First, and maybe easiest… I’m looking for some recommendations on Ham radios.  Honestly I don’t know what to even ask for here, and since I’ve moved most of my go to guys are kinda hard to get to.

Basically I’m looking for handheld and base station suggestions for regional communications.  My needs for cross-state comms is mostly gone at this point since we moved, but I do need some regional capability.

On a related note, I’m also looking for some recommendations on short wave receivers.  Similar concepts, I’m sure, but different radios.

Second, we’ve decided to jump into the glorious world of reloading ammunition.  My brother and some of the neighbors do this already, but while we’re pretty well set for ammunition, it’s time to beef up the supply options.

While I’m not particularly worried about a ban coming into effect, I do think it’s a little prudent to deepen the stores and provide for an additional source of ammo.

So …. Recommendations here?  Primary calibers for us are 9mm, 7.62, 5.56, and 30-06.

Finally!  I’ve had a bunch of requests for herbal and natural remedy information lately.  This isn’t something I’m qualified to talk about.  But if you are, or if you know someone who is, please let me know!

PLEASE!  Leave your recommendations in the comments!  Take care folks, and this should be a great week.

  1. Hi! I have a Yaesu handheld, the model VX-3, with which I am quite happy. You do need to get a separate mic/speaker or mic/earbud combo as the PTT switch on the unit is difficult for extended communications and the small speaker is hard to hear even with the volume turned all the way up, if there is any background noise at all. Since acquiring this model, I have discovered that I may have gotten by cheaper, but probably would have to forgo some features. It transmits on 2m/70cm only, which is fine for your entry license class, but listens to the entire spectrum. A quad band for a more advanced license holder will cost twice as much. I have a Dillon Precision progressive handloader for handgun calibers only. In retrospect, I wish I had gotten a model that would load rifle calibers, too, but hindsight is 20/20. Dillon operates like an assembly line with a round coming off with each action of the press. I am not familiar with other models, but I get the impression that you perform the same action on hundreds of cases at a time, i.e., depriming, powder, seat bullet, which I guess is okay.
