As many of you know, we’re facing a pretty tough decision right now with regards to where we want to live for the next several years as our kids finish out high school. Lots of criteria, lots of potential problems, and lots of potential benefits.
There’s something I read recently though that helped give me more to think about, as if I didn’t have enough. But it’s a big enough deal that I thought I’d share.
It’s really just a simple question followed by a simple statement. But one that says quite a bit.
Are you living the life you want to?
Then fix it because you have less time than you’d like to think you have.
Such a simple concept, but one that results in a very deep thought process.
Recently I made a personal decision to begin living my life with intention, which ties in directly with that concept though. Because I don’t think you can end up with the life you want if you just float along letting life happen to you.
Now I’ve driven quite a few things in my life, but there’s lots of areas that I’ve just gone along with the flow, even if I had thoughts or opinions on things. No more.
Even if you choose to go along with someone else, that’s still a decision. We’re not all leaders, and some of us prefer to be behind the scenes. And there’s nothing wrong with that, as long as that’s your conscious choice.
I personally believe that quite a bit of the woes we’re in as a country are a result of too many of us simply going along with the flow of things, and letting other people define our lives, how we will live, and what is important to us.
How can we be successful in anything that matters if we let that happen?
So no more.
Know what kind of life you want to live.
Then make it happen.
And make every decision with intent and thought.
Commit to never again be one that goes along with things just because it’s the easy way out. As you go into this week, think about what you do and why you’re doing it. And if you find that it isn’t congruent with your longer term goals, decide how to bring them into alignment.
So tell me … are you living the life you want? What are you going to do about it?
